TAMIL NADU

Ramanathaswamy

Ramanathaswamy Temple, located on Rameswaram Island in Tamil Nadu, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a prominent stop on the Char Dham Yatra. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is believed to be the place where Lord Rama worshipped Shiva to atone for the sins of war after defeating Ravana. The temple is renowned for its magnificent corridors — the longest in the world, intricately carved pillars, and sacred wells (teerthams) whose waters are said to have purifying powers. Surrounded by the gentle waves of the Bay of Bengal, this spiritual destination blends myth, devotion, and breathtaking Dravidian architecture.
